The winter transfer market is typically a time of feverish speculation and possible major transfers. Several notable footballers are being linked with moves away from their current clubs. This article explores some of the top figures that might be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player available, it appears a significant transfer is close. This Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal featuring a substantial release clause applicable for a two-week period at the start of the month. Recent reports suggest the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. Former suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late bid.

Marc Guéhi

This England defender has excel for Crystal Palace despite a previous move to Anfield falling through. With his contract due to expire in the close season, January is the London club's last chance to secure a fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, including City and multiple continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a January departure remains difficult, particularly given the coach's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Wales forward has had first-team minutes hard to come by at Spurs this term. Despite being the club's top scorer last season, he has started only a small number of Premier League games. It is understood the London outfit would be open to a sale for the right price, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal playmaker might be poised for a return to the English top flight after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still just 28, and with his agreement expiring in the summer, he represents a potential opportunity. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spain that he is willing to take a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced Germany goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barça under new manager Hansi Flick. After lost his place and had an operation, a January departure seems increasingly likely. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that option now appears off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This proven England centre-forward has kept scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his fading hopes of making the England World Cup. However, securing a transfer presents major hurdles. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his reported enormous weekly wages make any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been linked as admirers.

As his existing deal nearing its end, many English clubs – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the youngster to a new long-term agreement but are in a battle to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to complete a major move this month. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
