Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
