Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
